Vivaro and Trafic AdBlue Repair
Vauxhall Vivaro and Renault Trafic AdBlue repair: faults fixed mobile
Vivaro B and Trafic with the 1.6 dCi or CDTi, and the newer Vivaro C and Trafic with 1.5 or 2.0 diesels, use SCR with NOx sensors, a pump and a dosing injector on Euro 6 versions. A fault brings an AdBlue warning and a countdown to no start. We diagnose and repair on site, 6am–9pm, 7 days including bank holidays. From £249, fixed price before work starts, no fix no fee.

Typical Vivaro and Trafic AdBlue dash messages
Vivaros commonly show "Fault: emission control system" or "AdBlue: engine will not restart in X miles", sometimes with a "Service Urgently" prompt. Trafics tend to show "Check emissions system" or "Pollution fault" with a starts or mileage counter.
Wording differs by year and trim, but the pattern is the same. The warning escalates, a counter appears, and at zero the engine will not restart. A full tank with a warning still showing means a component fault, not low fluid.
Common AdBlue faults on the Vivaro and Trafic
The 1.6 diesel on the Vivaro B and Trafic only gained AdBlue on Euro 6 versions, from about 2016. The newer Vivaro C and Trafic use different engines and a different layout.
NOx sensor failure — P20EE, P229F
The downstream sensor drifts with age and heat. P229F points at the sensor itself, while P20EE reports poor catalyst efficiency and is often caused by a tired sensor. Both sensors are checked before we quote.
NOx sensor circuit and comms — P2200, U029D
Wiring, connectors or the sensor module can set P2200 or U029D (lost communication). Faults often appear and clear intermittently, so we check the loom first.
Dosing injector blockage — P204F, P20E9
Crystallised urea restricts the injector. P204F logs a performance fault and P20E9 can set when pressure rises because of the restriction. Cleaning is often enough.
Pump and pressure faults — P20E8
P20E8 (pressure too low) can come from a weak pump, an air leak on the supply side or a blocked filter. Live pressure testing separates these.
Heater and fluid — P20BA, P207F
A tank heater fault sets P20BA, and degraded or wrong fluid sets P207F. A drain and refill with fresh fluid resolves quality faults without parts.
How we diagnose a Vivaro or Trafic on site
We work through the SCR system with live data before ordering any part.
Full code read with freeze-frame data
Engine and SCR codes are read along with the conditions at the time each fault set.
NOx sensor comparison under load
Upstream and downstream readings are compared as load changes. Lazy or stuck readings identify a failing sensor.
Pump and pressure test
The pump is commanded on and pressure watched for a drop under sustained dosing.
Injector inspection
The injector is checked for crystallisation and for dosing shortfall against the commanded amount.
Wiring, heater and fluid check
Connectors near the exhaust, heater current and fluid concentration are checked before anything is condemned.
How the Vivaro and Trafic AdBlue repair works
The aim is a van that starts normally with no warning and verified SCR function. Fixed total before work starts. No fix, no fee. Written warranty.
Simple jobs such as injector cleaning or a fluid change are usually done on the first visit. If a part must be ordered, we diagnose first, agree the price and return to fit it. We come to your driveway, yard, depot or roadside.
Warning cleared and restart proven
Codes are cleared after the repair and the engine is restarted to confirm the countdown has gone.
Live-data sign-off
Pressure, both NOx sensors and the heater are verified at operating temperature.
Written warranty
Every repair carries a written warranty.

Software path — discussed only after diagnosis
Physical repair comes first on every Vivaro and Trafic callout. Any software option is only discussed after diagnosis, when a repair is not sensible, with a clear explanation of the legal position.
Any software change that disables AdBlue or SCR monitoring is supplied for off-road, competition or export use only, and the customer declares any modifications. It is never offered as a road-legal fix. Read our disclaimer.
Vivaro B, Vivaro C and Trafic generations
The Vivaro B (2014 to 2019) is built on the Renault Trafic, using the 1.6 CDTi or dCi. Euro 6 versions, from about 2016, carry AdBlue, while earlier ones usually do not.
The Vivaro C (from 2019) moved to the Stellantis platform shared with the Peugeot Expert and Citroën Dispatch, with 1.5 and 2.0 diesel engines. The Trafic continued separately from 2019 with the 2.0 dCi. Because the two now differ, we confirm the engine and year before diagnosis.
Nissan NV300 and Fiat Talento
The Nissan NV300 and Fiat Talento are Trafic twins, so the same fault patterns and repairs apply. Give us the registration and we confirm the exact layout.
Where faults show up first
Vans doing short urban stop-start work, such as couriers and tradesmen, tend to see injector deposits and fluid ageing sooner, because the exhaust rarely stays hot enough to clear them. Regular longer runs help the system self-clean.
Frequently asked questions
Does my Vivaro have AdBlue?
Euro 6 Vivaro B vans, from about 2016, and the Vivaro C generally do. Earlier 1.6 vans usually do not. Send us your registration and we confirm.
How much to fix AdBlue on a Vivaro or Trafic?
From £249 for diagnosis and straightforward fixes. Parts are NOx sensor from £249, injector £750 and tank assembly £795. Labour is quoted after diagnosis, with a fixed total before work starts.
Is the Vivaro C the same as a Peugeot Expert?
They share the Stellantis platform, so the SCR system and fault patterns are very similar. We service the Expert and Dispatch too.
Why does my van say pollution fault with a full tank?
A full tank rules out low fluid. The system has logged a component fault, such as a NOx sensor, pump or injector, and needs diagnosis.
What is U029D on a Trafic?
U029D means the control unit has lost communication with a NOx sensor. It can be the sensor, wiring or a connector, and we test the circuit before replacing anything.
Do you cover the NV300 and Talento?
Yes. They are Trafic twins and we repair them on site at your driveway, yard, depot or roadside, 6am–9pm, 7 days including bank holidays.
