Hyundai and Kia AdBlue Repair: CRDi SCR Faults Diagnosed on Site
Hyundai and Kia diesels with SCR, mainly 1.6 CRDi (U3 and Smartstream) and 2.0 or 2.2 CRDi (R) Euro 6d engines from about 2018, can show an AdBlue warning and a countdown. Check whether the car is still under manufacturer warranty before paying for a repair. If not, we diagnose on site, 6am–9pm, 7 days. From £249, fixed total before work starts. No fix, no fee.

Hyundai and Kia AdBlue messages and what they usually mean
Typical messages include "Check AdBlue system", "Low AdBlue level" and a countdown such as "Engine will not restart in X miles". The wording and distance steps vary by model and year, so treat these as examples.
A low-level message is a top-up request. A system warning with a full tank usually points to a logged component fault, and topping up will not clear it. If a countdown is running, book the repair before it reaches zero.
Why Hyundai and Kia diesels develop AdBlue faults
The Euro 6d CRDi engines use SCR with a heated tank, a pump, a dosing injector and NOx sensors. Faults are usually component related, and live data shows which part.
NOx sensor faults: P2200, P229F, U029D
Ageing or contaminated sensors can set P2200 (circuit), P229F (range or performance) or U029D (lost communication). We check wiring and connectors as well as the sensor itself.
Low SCR efficiency: P20EE, P2BAD
P20EE (efficiency below threshold) and P2BAD (NOx exceedance) show conversion is poor. The cause is often a sensor, dosing or fluid fault rather than the catalyst. We rule out the cheaper causes first.
Pump pressure faults: P20E8, P20E9
P20E8 (pressure too low) can come from a weak pump, an air leak or a blocked line. P20E9 (pressure too high) can come from a blocked injector or line.
Heater faults: P20BA
P20BA (heater performance) sets when the tank heater or its circuit is not working as expected. It is more noticeable in cold weather but can set at any time.
Injector and fluid problems: P204F, P207F
Crystallised urea on the injector can set P204F (system performance), and degraded or diluted fluid can set P207F (quality). Short journeys make both more likely.
What we check on a Hyundai or Kia callout
We read the SCR system with live data first, so the part that has failed is confirmed before you are quoted.
Full code read and freeze-frame data
Stored and pending codes are read from the engine and SCR modules, with freeze-frame data showing the conditions when each fault set.
NOx sensor comparison under load
Upstream and downstream readings are compared at idle and under load, and the wiring is checked before a sensor is condemned.
Pump pressure and dosing test
The pump is commanded and pressure monitored against target. Commanded versus delivered dosing separates a weak pump from a blocked injector.
Heater circuit test
Heater current and continuity are tested so a wiring fault is not mistaken for a failed assembly.
Fluid quality and supply voltage
A refractometer reading checks the AdBlue concentration. On 48V mild hybrid cars we also check supply voltage so a battery issue is not mistaken for a component fault.
Hyundai and Kia AdBlue repair: what you pay
Prices below are for parts only. Labour is quoted after diagnosis (POA), and we give you one fixed total before any work starts. No fix, no fee. Written warranty on every repair. We come to your driveway, office car park, yard or roadside.
Warning and countdown cleared
After the repair, codes are cleared and we confirm the message has gone and the car restarts normally.
SCR verified with live data
Dosing pressure, both NOx sensors and heater status are checked with the engine warm before we leave.

Software path — discussed only after diagnosis
Physical repair comes first on every Hyundai and Kia callout. Any software option is only discussed after diagnosis, once we know what has failed and what the repair would cost.
If it comes up, we explain the legal position clearly so you can decide with the full picture.
Any software change that disables AdBlue or SCR monitoring is supplied for off-road, competition or export use only, and the customer declares any modifications. It is never offered as a road-legal fix. Read our disclaimer.
Check your warranty before paying
Hyundai and Kia offer long manufacturer warranties, and many newer cars may still be covered. Before you pay for any AdBlue repair, check whether your car is still under Hyundai or Kia warranty. A franchised dealer can confirm this from the registration or VIN.
If the car is covered, the dealer may be the right first call. If the warranty has ended, or the dealer cannot see you soon enough, we can diagnose and repair on site. Using an independent repairer can affect warranty cover on some cars, so check the terms first.
Models and engines we attend
The 1.6 CRDi (U3 and Smartstream) and 2.0 or 2.2 CRDi (R) engines with SCR are found in the Hyundai Tucson, Santa Fe, i30 and i40 and the Kia Sportage, Sorento, Ceed and ProCeed. Euro 6d versions from about 2018 on carry the SCR system, and many have a 48V mild hybrid set-up.
If you are unsure whether your car has an AdBlue system, give us the registration when you call and we will confirm.
48V mild hybrid cars
The mild hybrid system does not change the SCR hardware, but low supply voltage can cause odd warnings. We check battery and supply health as part of the visit.
Frequently asked questions
Is my Hyundai or Kia AdBlue fault covered by warranty?
It might be. Hyundai and Kia offer long warranties, so check with a franchised dealer first using your registration or VIN. If it has ended, call us on 0203 038 8555.
My car says "Check AdBlue system" with a full tank. Why?
A full tank rules out a simple level warning. The system has probably logged a component fault such as a NOx sensor, heater, pump or injector. Topping up will not clear it.
How much does a Hyundai or Kia AdBlue repair cost?
Diagnosis and straightforward fixes start from £249. Parts prices are NOx sensor job from £249, injector £750 and tank assembly £795, parts only. Labour is quoted after diagnosis, with a fixed total before work starts.
Which models and engines do you cover?
Hyundai Tucson, Santa Fe, i30 and i40, and Kia Sportage, Sorento, Ceed and ProCeed with 1.6 CRDi (U3, Smartstream) and 2.0 or 2.2 CRDi (R) SCR engines, including mild hybrids.
Can I keep driving with a countdown on?
You can usually drive while it counts down, but the car may not restart once it reaches zero. Exact behaviour varies by model. Call us before that point.
What if you cannot fix it?
No fix, no fee. Every repair has a written warranty, and we work on your driveway, office car park, yard or roadside, 6am–9pm, 7 days including bank holidays.
