Removing AdBlue is illegal on UK roads

Removing or disabling AdBlue or SCR on a road vehicle breaks the Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations. That is only the start of the problem.

  • It is against the law

The regulations require emissions equipment to stay in working order. Using a vehicle without it on a public road is an offence.

  • It can fail the MOT

Testers can fail a vehicle for tampered emissions equipment. A lit warning lamp is also a fail reason.

  • Your insurer must be told

Modifications must be declared. An undeclared one can void your cover, which leaves you paying for any claim yourself.

  • It can void your warranty

Manufacturers can refuse warranty work on a vehicle with a modified emissions system.

  • Fines and enforcement

You are exposed to fines and enforcement. Goods vehicles face DVSA roadside checks, and a failed check can take the vehicle off the road.

  • It hurts resale

Buyers and dealers check. A vehicle with a modified system is harder to sell and sells for less.

Why people go looking for a delete

Most people who search for a delete have already had a bad experience. A dealer quoted a high price, a garage swapped a part and the light came back, or the countdown is close to zero and the vehicle is needed for work tomorrow.

Those are real problems, and they have a legal answer. We diagnose with live data before any part is quoted, so you only pay for the part that has actually failed. Where a van is free, we can be with you within the 3-hour window across London and the South East, from when you lock the slot.

If the warning has already come back after a previous repair, tell us what was done. That history often points straight to the real cause.

A repair usually costs less than people think

Most AdBlue faults come down to one failed part. A NOx sensor job is from £249. Published parts prices are £795 for an AdBlue tank and £750 for an AdBlue injector. Labour is quoted after diagnosis.

You get a fixed price before any work starts. If we do not fix it, you do not pay. That is our no fix no fee promise.

Compare that with a failed MOT, an invalid insurance claim or a lower resale price. The repair is usually the cheaper route, and the vehicle stays legal.

Common faults behind the warning

The warning is a symptom. These are the usual causes.

  • NOx sensor

Fails with age and heat. It is the most common cause of a countdown.

  • AdBlue pump

A worn pump cannot build pressure, so the system stops dosing.

  • Heater

A dead tank or line heater leaves frozen fluid in cold weather.

  • Injector crystallisation

Crystals build up and block the spray. The injector then needs cleaning or replacing.

  • Wrong fluid or contamination

Water, diesel or poor fluid in the tank trips the quality sensor.

  • Wiring

Corroded connectors and chafed looms mimic failed parts.

  • Tank

Cracks and failed senders mean the tank needs replacing.

Frequently asked questions

Is an AdBlue delete legal in the UK?

No. Removing or disabling AdBlue or SCR on a road vehicle is illegal under the Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations.

Will it fail the MOT?

It can. Testers can fail a vehicle for tampered emissions equipment or a lit warning lamp. A repaired system avoids both.

Do I have to tell my insurer?

Yes, modifications must be declared. An undeclared one can void your cover.

Do you do deletes?

No. We never offer, price or describe how to do one. We find the fault and repair it.

How much is a repair?

Work starts from £249, fixed before we begin. Published parts prices are £795 for a tank and £750 for an injector. Labour is quoted after diagnosis, and if we do not fix it, you do not pay.

Can I just reset the warning light?

A reset only clears the message. If the fault is still there, the light returns and the countdown carries on. We fix the cause so it stays gone.
